Monday Moments Ep 11 – The Best 7 of 2010!!

One of my favorite verses from the Christian Bible is one that says, “Be faithful in little things and you will be accorded Bigger things” or something along those lines. I believe in celebrating little success, no matter how small. If you have visited this blog more than 3 times, then this post is dedicated to you. I intend to go on the down low beginning today, as I prepare for what promises to be a great year for Intervangelist EA in 2011. Lots of ideas, too little time to execute them, but one step at a time and we will get there.

So ladies and gentlemen, here are my best Moments of 2010!! Continue reading ‘Monday Moments Ep 11 – The Best 7 of 2010!!’

Monday Moments Ep 6 – Girls Rule!!

As unnatural as that title might sound coming from a male, it has never felt more appropriate to scream from the top of my voice; Girls Rule!! From my encounters with the Nokia ladies at one end of the city, to watching the iHub ladies on the other end trouncing 17 other male dominated teams in the quest for Kshs 1 Million venture funding, I was humbled by how well our tech sisters are doing in this field.

The Tech field is so dominated by three legged creatures that for a long time it has been almost terrifying for any lady trying to venture into it. The hostile stares, the ridicule, the hate speech; I have seen (and sometimes even took part in) it. I will tell you this my friends; the Tech ladies who I had the pleasure of meeting last week were not just intelligent; they were BEAUTIFUL!! Continue reading ‘Monday Moments Ep 6 – Girls Rule!!’

Monday Moments Ep 3 – We are Robots!

In the past few weeks, I have been introduced to such terminologies as Augmented Reality, QR Codes, Context Computing and a bunch of other words that leave you thirsty for an unholy drink. As if that’s not bad enough, I had to help explain these words to people who are still trying to understand what SEO is. Fun Huh? Not a bit. But it was an interesting experience. MZOORI CAMPAIGN! IT’S AN INVITES ONLY PARTY!

Don’t we all hate to be left out? Even more than that, don’t we all like to be among the select few? I know I do.

Mzoori’s publicity stunt can only be described as genius! I fist heard about Mzoori towards the end of last year. A visit to their website took me to an under construction page that was like no other under construction page (See my post on effective Under Construction pages). With no website to show, they already had a facebook page and a twitter profile. A visit to their facebook profile and I still didn’t know what these guys were upto. HOW TO BEAT FACEBOOK (PART 1)

Yes, finally someone has come up with a working formula!!

We marvel each passing day at how the likes of Facebook and Twitter are taking the world by storm, topping popular news channels and generating more online conversations about them than the user profiles they are supposed to be promoting, while earning their founders billions in the process from online advertisements.

The ever lingering question on most ambitious minds is this; ‘how can I create a comparable local success story?’ I believe it is possible, and I also believe that it will happen really soon. I however also bear strong feelings that most of our local pioneers are going about this the wrong way, and if we don’t watch out, the Forbes list might just take longer to come our way. GOOGLE, FACEBOOK…AND NOW TWITTER!!

I recently posted on Intervangelist about Ushahidi, the crowdsourcing website that grew from a simple Kenyan post-election-violence inspired project to an international success. Despite being a not-for-profit entity, it still gave us a very good lesson on Building first, then money later. Well, in comes Twitter. Continue reading ‘GOOGLE, FACEBOOK…AND NOW TWITTER!!’
